In my work with private equity firms, I see a pattern that’s getting stronger, not weaker, in 2026.
Strategy, capital, AI and data: all there. Often of the highest quality.
What’s missing are the people who turn all that potential into real results. Not just slides, but decisions and value.
In a transformation, a turnaround, a buy-and-build or an exit under time pressure, “tidy management” simply isn’t enough.
You need strong leaders who stay calm in the storm and genuinely take responsibility.
I don’t recognise the strongest personalities by the shiny labels on their CV.
I recognise them by the moments when they were in the line of fire, brought people with them and delivered.
What sets these top leaders apart:
- they aren’t afraid to decide, even with 60 % of the information
- they act fast while others are still hesitating
- they take ownership of the whole system, not just their own patch
At TALENTspy, I don’t find this kind of leadership through keyword searches or standard interviews.
I find it through a deep understanding of leadership in transformation,
shaped by our own operational responsibility in banking, retail and industry, and by many years working alongside investors.
For my partners and me, one thing is clear:
ideas, capital and technology are interchangeable. The people who make them work are not.
How would you define the leadership your company needs for its next chapter?
