Our client
Our client, a leading global reinsurance group, is looking for a recognised underwriting leader (m/f/d) for Germany and Austria. The role shapes the future of underwriting in both markets and makes you the client’s leading underwriting voice there.
You will be a trusted advisor to clients and senior stakeholders in the German and Austrian insurance markets. The role calls for deep medical underwriting expertise combined with strategic thinking, market insight and a drive for innovation. Your remit is to develop underwriting practices, push digital transformation forward and create measurable value for clients.
As a senior member of the underwriting team, you will own client outcomes, business opportunities and the further development of medical underwriting.
Your tasks
- Serve as Chief Underwriter for Germany & Austria and act as the leading underwriting voice in these strategically important markets
- Build trusted relationships with senior decision-makers at key clients and represent the company at industry forums, conferences and market initiatives
- Independently decide on complex underwriting and risk management matters and provide expert guidance on highly complex cases and underwriting questions
- Define and decide on market-specific underwriting philosophies, medical and non-medical underwriting guidelines, and best-practice standards
- Shape underwriting strategies, identify emerging market opportunities and proactively drive innovation in products, services, processes and digital underwriting solutions
- Advise clients and internal stakeholders on complex underwriting, risk management and underwriting transformation topics
- Own strategic initiatives and cross-functional projects that create measurable value for clients and the group
- Develop and inspire underwriters and consultants, fostering a culture of accountability, ownership, innovation and client-centricity
Your profile
- University degree or equivalent qualification
- 10+ years of underwriting experience in Life & Health insurance and/or reinsurance, including deep expertise in Life and Disability underwriting
- Recognized industry expert with extensive knowledge of the German insurance market and an established professional network
- Proven leadership experience, including the successful development of high-performing teams
- Demonstrated ability to manage senior stakeholders and build trusted relationships at senior management level
- Strong track record in driving underwriting innovation, digital transformation and strategic change initiatives
- Strategic thinker with strong commercial acumen, executive presence and excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills
- Passion for leveraging digital technologies, data analytics and AI to shape the future of underwriting
- Willingness to travel
- Excellent German and English language skills

Christina Hofmann verantwortet als Partner bei TALENTspy den Bereich Financial Services, FinTech & InsurTech. Sie berät Banken, Versicherungen und Rückversicherungen, FinTechs und InsurTechs. Ihre Schwerpunkte sind Strategie, Transformation, Data Analytics und Künstliche Intelligenz. Christina schloss ihr Fremdsprachenstudium als Übersetzerin und Dolmetscherin für Französisch und Spanisch mit Schwerpunkt Wirtschaft ab. Danach studierte sie Personalwesen und ging als HR-Generalistin ins Hotel Bayerischer Hof in München. Dort merkte sie, dass ihr die Besetzung von Fach- und Führungspositionen am meisten liegt. 2001 machte sie daraus ihren Beruf und wechselte in die Personalberatung. Bei zwei Münchner Beratungen besetzte sie Positionen auf Fach- und Führungsebene. Dabei verlagerte sich ihr Fokus zunehmend auf Financial Services.
