The company
Our client is a leading German bank. As part of the build-out of its new office in Luxembourg, we are mandated to identify a Director / Senior Compliance Officer / MLRO (m/f/d).
The Director / Senior Compliance Officer / MLRO (m/f/d) is responsible for the independent oversight and ongoing development of the compliance and AML/CFT framework of the Bank’s Luxembourg operations. The role serves as the central point of contact for the CSSF, the Luxembourg Financial Intelligence Unit, and external and internal auditors, and coordinates closely with the bank’s central Compliance function and Group AML functions to ensure a consistent and robust control environment.
Your responsibilities
- Build, maintain and continuously improve the local AML/CFT and compliance framework, including policies, procedures, controls and the institution-specific money-laundering risk assessment.
- Oversee customer, product, country and transaction risk assessments; ensure effective transaction monitoring, sanctions and embargo screening, documented alert handling and escalation processes.
- Oversee compliance with CDD/KYC requirements, including customer and beneficial-owner identification and enhanced due diligence for higher-risk clients.
- Assess suspicious activity, decide on and submit suspicious transaction reports where required, liaise with the Luxembourg Financial Intelligence Unit, and respond to regulatory and official requests.
- Report material risks, findings and remediation measures to local management and relevant Group functions; coordinate regulatory and audit reviews and deliver or arrange AML/CFT training.
- Implement Group-wide AML standards locally and coordinate with the Group Money Laundering Reporting Officer while maintaining the independence and authority required for the Luxembourg role.
Your skillset
- Degree in law, economics, business administration or a comparable qualification; a banking qualification combined with relevant advanced training may also be suitable.
- At least five years of relevant experience in compliance, AML/CFT, audit, risk management or banking regulation, preferably within a credit institution.
- Sound knowledge of Luxembourg AML/CFT law, CSSF requirements and circulars, EU AML requirements, EBA guidance, sanctions and embargo rules, KYC and transaction-monitoring processes.
- Experience engaging with regulators and auditors, with high integrity, independence, sound judgement and the ability to assess complex matters.
- Excellent communication, influencing and presentation skills; business-fluent English, French is an advantage.
